Chris Wallace will lead the Sunday show on CNN

Chris Wallace left a Sunday show on Fox News to jump into the world of broadcasting on CNN. But now he’s back in the weekend format he’s known for:

The network announced Wednesday during a presentation in advance of its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, that Wallace will take over CNN’s new Sunday program.

The show is intended to be part of a new “CNN Sunday” premium collection that will also include a new program dedicated to long-term corporate journalism from CNN reporters that looks similar to the CBS News @ “60 Minutes” concept.

Executives see the new Sunday show as a collection of “enterprise” stories from CNN reporters around the world, said Chris Licht, the news company’s chairman and CEO. He said the segments could focus on “distant investigations or human dramas”.

The two programs represent some of CNN’s first initiatives under the leadership of Licht, who said Wednesday that he sees an opportunity for CNN to thrive by moving away from the partisan leanings of its main competitors, Fox News and MSNBC.

“The next chapter at CNN is the chapter in which we aspire to be a beacon of the kind of journalism necessary for a functioning democracy,” Licht said. “At a time when extremism dominates satellite news, we will seek a different approach that reflects the real lives of our viewers and raises the profile of America and the world to this medium.”

Licht also said that CNN will be launching a new morning show in the fall.
