She and I used to do something: “You’re a great kid.” We were cutting each other in the chin. But yeah, if we do a great scene, we’ll go, “Hey, good job.” So – we were recreating that.
It definitely shows how close Meloni and Hargitay are to having a routine when supporting each other after the scene. It makes me wonder how long they came up with it, but the fact that they’re still doing it makes it even more special. They first became on-screen partners when SVU It was first shown in 1999.
Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay clearly have a special bond, and we don’t often see these kinds of moments caught on camera. Sure, their characters aren’t overtly emotional often, but Hargitay recently wished him a Merry Christmas with a fun photo of them sharing a hug. Meanwhile, on screen, Meloni’s Elliot Stabler finally met Hargitay’s son Olivia Benson, and while it was a brief moment (and was cut completely during broadcast), it was still cute.
It’s also nice to have these sweet moments with Meloni and Hargitay when there’s no sign that their characters’ relationship will seem to move forward, as fans have been waiting for developments for years. While Hargitay has stated that “Olivia has been in love with him” for a while now, she has been hurt by his leaving, and he is still agonizing over the loss of his wife. Therefore, it may still be some time before the two of them realize their feelings, if they really are.

This was definitely unexpected, but it melted my heart at the strength of their relationship. Now I need to recreate it on either of them SVU or OC So it could be the Olivia and Elliot thing, or maybe something similar.
