BeachLife Ranch Festival Lumineers Show, Brandy Carlyle, Wilco

In another example of rain as it rains, the greater Los Angeles area, which previously had no country or Americana festivals, will now see two in the coming months. The latest announced is the BeachLife Ranch Country & Americana Festival, which will take place September 16-18 in Redondo Beach.

Among the most notable beachfront spots in South Bay are Lumineers, Brandi Carlile, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Dierks Bentley, and Wilco. All of these artists are successful runway-wide headliners; Carlyle, for example, is already playing two nights at Greek in June, and both shows are completely sold out.

Also on the bill is the scion of the families of country music legends. Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real are on the shortlist, and the festival promises “a very special performance of ‘Songs Of Waylon Jennings,’ featuring Shooter Jennings and surprise guests.” Additional works to complete the three days of music will be named later.

This comes on the heels of another new country/Americana festival in the region that will have its “first annual” edition in the next four months. That will be the Palomino Festival for Goldenvoice, a one-day event scheduled to take place in Pasadena on July 9 with Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Jason Ispel and others. Of course, the Stagecoach Festival in Indio lasts longer, but Los Angeles fans who love musical genres but don’t necessarily look for the intricacies of expensive hotels or camping will be happy to have two multi-artist gatherings close to home.

Even with the loose standards that come with combining country with Americana, the BeachLife Ranch lineup is not particularly restrictive. Hall and Oates had never really been thought to fit into either genre before, although it is unlikely that attendees would complain about having such a good feeling, albeit unattractive, as a favorite as an attraction. Bentley is the only representative from the contemporary mainstream on the bill, at least for now, but many Americana fans appreciate him, especially as he plunged into the realm of bluegrass at times. Wilko didn’t always sound like an Americana act, per se, though the band is heading back toward that label with their new album “Cruel Country.”

If the name of the new festival is full, it is in part that the festival was established as an adjunct to the already existing BeachLife Festival, which began in 2019 in the ocean setting that will also host this sister festival. BeachLife’s latest edition took place May 13-15 and featured rockers such as Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow, Weezer and 311.

Weekend tickets are now on sale here. The Basic General Pass runs for $299. VIP passes are $688 and Admiral passes are $995. And it doesn’t stop there – the festival offers a special “Outlaw” one-story pass that may actually be illegal to incur, priced at $2999.

beach life Co-Founder/Producer Allen Sanford explained the attempt to create a separate spirit for this sister festival in a statement, saying, “We are excited to celebrate the ‘cowboy’ way of life…This festival is inspired by your growing up in Southern California and spending your summers on the Central California trail riding horses.” All day, then back home for a sunset BBQ shower at the Santa Maria tri-tip with all the fixings. It’s different from surf and skate beach culture, but the atmosphere is the same, and something we want to celebrate: love and respect for the outdoors, nature, friends and community.”
