JK Rowling slams ‘distasteful’ Zelensky impersonators after prank

JK Rowling has joined the likes of Elton John, Prince Harry and Billie Eilish in being the latest victim of Russian comedian scammers Vovan and Lexus. The duo are notorious for their celebrity-calling prank. In Rowling’s case, Vovan Lexus tricked controversial “Harry Potter” author into believing she was speaking with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky during a conversation on Zoom.

The author’s spokesperson criticized the joke as “distasteful” in a statement to THR, Adding, “JK Rowling has been contacted to talk about her extensive charitable work in Ukraine, supporting children and families affected by the current conflict in the region. The video, which has been edited, is a distorted representation of the conversation.”

Rowling’s representative did not immediately respond miscellaneous Comment request.

Rowling is working with her charitable organization We Are Lumos in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr region to help support children and families affected by the war with Russia. The “Harry Potter” author has used her Twitter account in recent weeks to mobilize charitable efforts on behalf of the organization.

Vovan and Lexus also raised Rawling’s controversial views on trans rights while questioning the author about Dumbledore being gay. The duo asked who Dumbledore slept with and said he “hopes he’s not with a transgender.”
