Any music photographer working in London throughout the 80s was endowed with the presence of the magnetic stage of Freddie Mercury, whose flashy expressions and energetic movements were practically made for the camera. And now, some of the most iconic images captured throughout the rocker’s career are featured in a new capsule collection by Hugo Boss, released in time for Pride month.
The streetwear collection is part of the Boss “Legends” series, the first of which celebrated Muhammad Ali. In the new capsule, black and white images of Mercury wear the front of the T-shirts ($88) and hoodie ($198), each displayed in yellow, black and white. The back of the premium tee features one of the rock star’s most memorable quotes: “I’m not going to be a star. I’m going to be a legend!”
“Freddie’s flamboyant flair and enduring personality combined with Quinn’s irrefutable voice and style continue to influence a new generation of fans and musicians to this day,” the brand wrote in a statement. “He and the band’s art continue to dominate. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, a 2018 biographical feature film, revitalized Freddy and the band’s core fan base and attracted a whole new audience. The film became the biggest music biopic in history and swept the Golden Awards Globe and Academy Awards with soundtracks topped the charts worldwide.”
