Brenner joins indie film The Low End Theory

Rapper and entrepreneur Weed Berner has joined the cast of the upcoming indie thriller The Low End Theory.

Directed by Francisco Ordonez, who co-wrote the script with lead actress Sophia Yepes, “The Low End Theory” is a thrilling new movie about an aspiring hip-hop producer who begins laundering money for a drug dealer. Berner will play a supporting role in the cast, as well as executive production and composing the film’s soundtrack.

“When I read this script, I was so excited. The music trade, the drug trade, money laundering, these are worlds I’ve portrayed so much in my music, and they all sound really real here,” Berner said in a statement. I think this is something that we definitely need more of in entertainment. We kind of always put in a box or two. It’s not really expressive stories like these.”

Berner has released 16 albums, many of which have made it to the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. This will be his first time working on a soundtrack for a movie. In addition, Berner is best known for being active in the California cannabis market, through his “Cookies” brand, which has 50 retail stores in seven countries.

“The Low End Theory” was produced by Atomic Features. Yepes serves as lead producer for the film with Daniel Ragussis.

“Making an artist and businessman like Berner behind our film is a dream come true on every level,” Ragusis said in a statement. “He is the full package – a creative force that will enable the artistic vision of the film, and a world-class marketer and promoter who will help ensure this film reaches the audience it deserves, which is especially important given the challenges facing the Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities in the past have had to spread their stories “.
