Busan Asian Film Fund Announces 13 Recipients

The Asian Cinema FundThe Grant Program for Film and Documentary Projects working in tandem with the Busan International Film Festival, has announced six Korean recipients and seven from elsewhere in Asia. The fund was put in a hiatus during the two years of COVID, which also reduced the size of the festival and transformed Asian Contents and Film Market in a virtual event. Three winners – “In the Land of Brothers” by Raha Amir Fazali, “Life I Stole” by Putri Purnama Sugwa and “Smart City” by Rohin Ravindran – each receive 10 million KRW (US$7.50) to develop the script and are invited To participate in the ACFM Asian Projects Market. Three films currently in post-production – ‘Birth’ by Yoo Jeong, ‘Juhei 5 to 7’ by Jang Kunji, and ‘Mary’ by Arving Pratap – will receive in-kind support for digital media, DCP production, audio mixing and sub-ownership. Premiere as finished works at Busan Festival. Seven documentaries also receive a production support of KRW 10 million. The Busan Festival will run from October 5 to 14, 2022. The Busan Festival will be held from October 8 to 11, 2022.

The Taipei Film Festival Its grand prize was awarded a cash prize of NT$600,000 (US$20,000) to “Softie” French film directed by Samuel Theis. The festival’s Special Jury Prize went to GuĂ°mundur Arnar GuĂ°mundsson’s Beautiful Beings. The Quiet Girl, directed by Irish director Colm Berriad, won the People’s Choice Award. Softie also won the Taiwan Film Critics Association Award, which is judged by three members of the association. They praised the film for its exploration of a child’s sexual desire that transcends the boundaries of gender and class, and to do so from the point of view of a fearless slave.
