FIFA 23 is coming to Stadia with full cross-play support

Google Stadia fans have been waiting like an eternity for new big-name games, and now we’ve got a second in a matter of weeks. It’s a bit like waiting for a bus, and then two come at once. In this case, the second bus is FIFA 23, the last of EA’s soccer titles with that famous name. FIFA 23 has been revealed today, and it will be on Stadia at launch on September 30th, or three days before for Ultimate Edition buyers.

EA’s relationship with Stadia hasn’t been bad lately. FIFA 22 is already on the platform, as is the awesome Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. You can also find two big hitters from EA’s racing division, Codemasters, in the form of GRID Legends and Dirt 5, although the latest F1 game never materialized.

Anyway, this is about FIFA 23 and it’s good news, on paper at least, for Stadia players. They will have full cross-play support with Xbox Series X | S, PS5 and PC, while Xbox One and PS4 players will be bundled together. This should mean there is no shortage of multiplayer action, although it appears that cross-play is limited to FUT. If you’re new, FUT is FIFA Ultimate Team, also known as EA Wallet Rinse Mode. So of course that’s what they want you to play. But this means that you can play on your Android phone with your friend on PS5.

EA is naturally talking about the technical advancements in FIFA 23, and this year it’s all about HyperMotion2 and improved physics for a more realistic experience. There’s even a better shuffle system, apparently. Jokes aside, FIFA is still basically unchallenged, so it’s good to see EA actually continue to improve the core of the game.

Women’s football also gets its biggest boost yet in a FIFA match. For the first time, you’ll be able to play both the Men’s and Women’s World Cup – EA modes taking advantage of the FIFA license while they still can. Barkley Women’s Super League of England and Division 1 Arkema of France will both make their FIFA debuts.

The pricing for FIFA 23 is in line with the console version, around $60 or the equivalent in your region. The Ultimate Edition costs about $20 more, but it also comes with three days of early access between its perks. FIFA 23 is available for Pre-order on Stadia Now along with other release platforms.
