K-Pop: Girls’ Generation continues to come back, to release a studio album

Their agency SM Entertainment announced on Monday that the Korean group Girls Generation will release their new album “Forever 1” on August 8. It will be their first album in six years and accelerate the comeback movement that began last year.

The girl group was originally founded in 2007 as a nine-member business. She enjoyed huge success with hit songs including “Girls’ Generation”, “Gee”, “Genie” and “Lion Heart”, which ran until 2015. By that time, one member had been fired, reducing the number of performers to eight.

They released their last album “Holiday Night” in 2017 and discontinued later that same year, but they confirmed that Girls’ Generation has not been disbanded. Around the same time, three members left SM Entertainment and several of them also had solo careers. During Girls’ Generation’s hiatus, the all-female boy group BTS and Blackpink dominated the category and raised it to unprecedented levels of international success.

All eight Girls’ Generation members will be returning for the new album, Yonhap News Agency reported. The album will contain ten tracks and the release coincides with the band’s fifteenth anniversary. The teaser for “Forever 1” was revealed on Monday.

The initial comeback steps began last year, when the members appeared on the variety show “You Quiz on the Block.” SM has given notice of further activities from March onwards. The group also participated in their reality show “Soshi TamTam”, which began broadcasting on JTBC from July 5, 2022.

They are also expected to attend the “SM Town Live 2022: SMCU Express @ Human City Suwon” concert at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul on August 20.
