For anyone who has pre-ordered or already has a Google Pixel 6a phone, you should expect an update shortly after turning on the device. According to Google, both unlocked variants and device carrier variants are eligible for the Day 1 patch, but build numbers vary across models.
As the company announced on its forums, the first security software update for the Pixel 6a will be gradually made available worldwide. The build number after the update should be as follows:
- Global (open): SD2A.220601.03
- Japan: SD2A.220601.001.A1
- AT&T and T-Mobile: SD2A.220601.002
- Verizon: SD2A.220601.004
As you might expect early in the patch, there isn’t much to see here. Aside from possible stability improvements and bug fixes, the new version actually brings the Android security patch level up to June 2022. This is a bit strange because the update doesn’t include the latest July 2022 security patch (or August, if you’re considering Samsung’s early rollout) . However, we’re only days away from the eighth month of the year, so it’s possible that the Pixel 6A will completely skip the July patch and jump straight into the August batch in the coming days.
It may take a few days for the entire update to complete, so there is a chance that your unit may not be able to download the version right away. If you expect the device to arrive in the next couple of days, it will be an update status during the setup phase. You can also manually check for a software update on your Pixel 6a by going to Settings > System > system update > Check updates.
