‘Into the Woods’ announces Broadway extension, new cast

“Into the Woods”, Restores the famous New York City Center! A production of a classic musical by James Labin and Stephen Sondheim, performances will run until October 16 with a largely new band.

He joined production as Stephanie J. Block as Baker’s wife (replacing Sarah Bareilles), Sebastian Arcelos as the baker (replacing Brian Darcy James), Christa Rodriguez as Cinderella (replacing Philippa Sue), and Katie Geraghty as Little Red Readinghood (replacement) Julia Lister), and Jim Stanek as the host (instead of David Turner). In addition, Montego Glover will co-star as the Witch with Patina Miller. Gavin Creel and Joshua Henry would go on as Prince of the Wolf/Cinderella and Prince of Rapunzel, respectively. The cast will change on September 6.

However, Andy Karl will play Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince from September 6 through September 15, as Gavin Karl fulfills a pre-commitment. Creel returns to production on September 16.

Starting September 27, Ann Harada will reprise her role as Mom Jack on City Center Encores! Produce. Aymee Garcia will continue as Jack’s mother until September 25th.

Patina Miller will be the witch for the shows Friday through Sunday, and Montego Glover will take over the role from Tuesday through Thursday.

As previously announced, Bareilles, d’Arcy James and Soo will run through September 4. Ta’Nika Gibson, Annie Golden, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Patrick Kelly, Nancy Opel, Cole Thompson, Alysia Velez, Delphi Willie Borish, Felicia Carey, Jason Feuerbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kriebel, Mary-Kate Moore, Diane Phelan, and Lucia Spina are in production.

Block won a Tony Award for her performance in “The Cher Show” and has also appeared in “The Boy from Oz” and “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”. Arcelus has appeared in “House of Cards” and “Madame Secretary” on ABC, as well as on Broadway in “Rent”, “Wicked” and “Jersey Boys”. Rodriguez is best known for her work on the NBC series “Smash” and the ABC series “Quantico”. Her Broadway credits include “Spring Awakening” and “The Addams Family”. Giragati made her Broadway debut in “Groundhog Day” and will appear in “& Juliet”. Stanik appeared on Broadway in “A Funny Thing on the Way to the Forum” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”. Glover is a Tony Award nominee for her performance in “Memphis” and has also appeared in “Les Miserables.”

“Into the Woods” directed by Leer de Bissonnette, the musical direction by Rob Berman with The Encores! Orchestra, and choreography by Lauren Lataru. The show is currently one of the hottest tickets on Broadway.

“Into the Woods” premiered on Broadway in 1987, and won three Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Book. It has since been produced worldwide and adapted into a major movie in 2014 directed by Rob Marshall and starring Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp. This production, which originated from a theater show of downtown New York as part of Encores! series, the first time on Broadway in 20 years. The show, which is currently playing at St James’s Theatre, has received rave reviews.
