Houston child falls out of moving SUV: Grandmother explains 19-month-old girl has done this before!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – The video of a young child falling out of the car in the middle of rush hour traffic is one that many of us can’t get out of.

Now, for the first time, we’re hearing news from the family that got involved.

The baby’s grandmother said over the phone, “I didn’t even know[I saw her]on the news. I said, ‘What?” “Good Lord.”

She did not reveal any names of eyewitnesses, nor did she confirm anything about medical care, but she claims that the 19-month-old was unharmed.

The video shows the girl stumbling out of an SUV on the Hillcroft feeder road and the Southwest Highway – one of Houston’s busiest intersections.

The grandmother said that the child’s aunt is driving the car. In the video, you can see her holding the little boy before quickly returning him to the back seat.

“I pulled the doorknob like you always do, because I’m keeping the child’s lock closed,” said the baby’s grandmother. “I just pulled the door handle.”

She said her granddaughter had done this before, she simply got out of her car seat and pulled the door handle until it opened.

Since many people have seen this shocking video, questions have arisen about the criminal charges.

Houston police said they interviewed the family. They said they were still trying to figure out if the family had used the car seat even after the fall, and the grandmother admitted to us that the child’s locks weren’t working.

Police confirmed that the child’s grandmother and aunt went to prison and turned themselves in on Wednesday, but they were released because they did not have arrest warrants at this time.

“All I do is just watch her and pray for her to be safe and keep her out of harm’s way,” said the baby’s grandmother.
