Ewan McGregor to star in Paramount + Drama ‘A Gentleman In Moscow’

Ewan McGregor is set to star in “A Gentleman in Moscow,” based on the Amor Towles novel, for Paramount + and Showtime.

McGregor, who previously starred in the Star Wars and “Halston” movie series, will play Count Alexander Rostov who finds himself going from affluence to rags after the Russian Revolution. A Soviet court banishes him to the attic room of a luxury hotel, where he “discovers the true value of friendship, family and love,” oblivious to the outside world.

“It’s a great, fantastic story and I’m so excited to play such an amazing role,” said McGregor, who will also produce the series.

Entertainment One, via Tom Harper’s subsidiary Popcorn Storm Pictures, is set to produce the series in association with Paramount Global VIS’ international studio division.

The series will premiere on Paramount+ globally, and on Showtime in the US

Ben Vanstone (“All Creatures Big and Small”) will feature and produce the series. Harper (“War and Peace”) will also be produced alongside Xavier Marchand (“Nautilus”) and Towles.

“The book is a rare and delicious treat and I fell in love with it from the moment I picked it up six years ago,” Harper said. “We are pleased that Omar commissioned this wonderful team to revive Metropol, and we were not pleased that Ewan will play the role of the Count.”

McGregor will then be heard as Sebastian J. Cricket in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” on Netflix and will then appear as mountaineer George Mallory in the upcoming feature “Everest.”

McGregor is represented by UTA, Narrative, and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern.
