The advanced Meta VR headset will be launched in October

The Cambria project has been in the works for some time. The VR headset was first dispensed with at the Connect conference in October 2021, and since then, small bits of information have surfaced over the past year. Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook) has now recorded that the headset will arrive in October.

In an interview with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Zuckerberg confirmed that a new VR headset will arrive in a couple of months. While he didn’t directly mention that Project Cambria would arrive, he did talk about a VR headset with “big features”. Discuss how the upcoming headset will feature eye and face tracking, bringing VR avatars to life.

This is a big deal considering that current consumer VR headsets offered in retail environments do not provide full face tracking. HTC offers a face tracker accessory For VIVE VR headsets that can track the movement of the face. But this supplement is for tracking the lower part of the face such as the mouth, lips and tongue. There are other companies promising face tracking technology in their VR headsets like Decabut it did not provide the product to consumers and appears to be dead in the water.

While the next VR headset from Meta will be offered at a higher price, Zuckerberg has stated The goal is to eventually bring these same technologies to lower-end models. Currently, it sells Meta Quest 2, one of the lower priced VR options that offer standalone and tethered operations. This means that the Quest 2 can be run as a standalone device or can be connected to a computer for a more powerful experience. Recently, this headset got a price hike after years of selling the base model for $299. But at least when you buy it now, it comes with a free copy of Beat Saber.

    A great VR headset.

While we have two months to wait, the high-end Meta VR headset is likely to appear at the company’s annual Connect conference and may arrive as MetaQuest Pro.
