Prince Harry and Meghan pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Prince Harry paid tribute to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday at the age of 96.

In a statement on Archewell’s website shared with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Harry wrote: “In celebrating my grandmother’s life, Her Majesty the Queen – and in mourning her loss – we all remember the guiding compass she had for many in her commitment to service and duty. She was universally admired and respected. Her dignity remained and her unshakable grace a truth all her life and now her eternal legacy.Let us echo the words she said after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, words that can bring us all comfort now: “Life, of course, consists of one last parting as well as first encounters.”

“Grandmother, while this last parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all our first meetings—from my first childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as Commander in Chief, to the first moment you met my beloved wife and embraced your beloved great-grandchildren. I cherish those times that I shared it with you, and many other special moments in between. We miss you greatly, not only from our side, but from all over the world. And in terms of the first meetings, we now honor my father in his new role as King Charles III.”

“Thank you for your commitment to service. Thank you for your sound advice. Thank you for your infectious smile. We, too, are smiling knowing that you and your grandfather are now reunited, both together in peace.”

The statement was specifically labeled as being from Prince Harry alone.

Last week, following news of the Queen’s death, Meghan and Harry changed Archewell’s website to a black page engraved with the words “In Memory of Her Loving Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022”.

The couple, who moved to California in 2020, were last Thursday in London for the WellChild Awards, a party for seriously ill children. They pulled out of the event Thursday at lunchtime after Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen’s health had rapidly deteriorated. Prince Harry immediately headed to Balmoral, his grandmother’s castle in the Scottish Highlands, where he was joined by his father King Charles, his brother Prince William, his uncles Princes Andrew and Edward, and his aunt Princess Anne.

Meghan is reported to have postponed the next episode of the Spotify ‘archetypes’ podcast, which was due to be released next Tuesday, in honor of the Queen’s death. Page Six also reported that it has canceled a planned appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, September 20. It is believed that the Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday, 19 September at the latest.

While relations between Meghan, Harry and the royal family were reported to be strained, King Charles III emphasized his affection for the couple in his first address to the nation on Friday night, when he said: “I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.”

As grandsons of the reigning monarch, Meghan and Harry’s sons, Archie and Lilipet, have inherited the titles of Prince and Princess, although there is no indication yet from the couple whether they plan to use the titles for their children. Since agreeing with the Queen in 2020 that they would “step back” as senior members of the royal family and move abroad to pursue business ventures, including deals with Netflix and Spotify, Meghan and Harry have agreed not to use their Royal Highnesses (which are still outstanding) appointments. ) for His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness) although they continue to use the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
