Chicago PD Jesse Lee Souffer’s exit: How Jay Halstead left the unit

brake alert: This story contains spoilers for “Good Man”, the October 5th episode of “Chicago PD

Jay Halstead is no longer working at CPD. Jesse Lee Soffer appeared on the final episode of NBC’s Chicago PD on Wednesday night. Another hour after dumping his wife and partner, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridacus), Jay finally realizes he’s changed — and not for the better.

During a case that involved saving the reputation of an Army vet who helped in a burglary, Jay circumvents the law (again) to take down the thieves. The vet, who eventually died to save another woman, did not turn up in order to protect the man’s family and his reputation. However, knowing that he had once again broken the law – and stabbed a man in the process – Jay chose to resign from intelligence.

In the final moments of the episode, he tells Healy that he’s joined the army group tracking down the cartel’s forces, which has been taking him to Bolivia for eight weeks. I swear to her that she is the love of his life, and they will get over her.

At the airport, Voight (Jason Peggy) came to see him off and offered him any job he wanted to stay in. In return, Jay told him he wanted it is being Voight – that was the problem. “It’s like you’re always telling me, ‘I’m not, and I shouldn’t try,'” he told his former boss. With that, they shook hands and Jay left Chicago.

diverse It exclusively broke the news in August that Soffer will be leaving Dick Wolf after 10 seasons. “Creating this dramatic watch week after week has been hard work by everyone who touched the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead,” he said in a statement at the time.

Before his exit, showrunner Gwen Segan hinted at how the breakout would affect Upton, who married Halstead in season eight.

“It’s definitely been a challenge, but I’m really proud of where we came out of it, because I think we gave Upton a really interesting story this season about how she’s approached this. She’s a very loyal and attached person. It’s not just marriage, they are partners and partners as well. At a job she’s a pressure cooker. Their lives are in danger all the time, especially how we play it on the show,” she said diverse Last month. “Not having that second half of your personality all of a sudden puts you in a very vulnerable and underdeveloped place. As we know, Upton is very strong and she’s also a very guarded person and likes to be in control of his emotions and likes to be able to handle things. That puts her in an interesting place, And we definitely see how she falls. The writing was really exciting and I think it would be a really interesting thing for Tracy to play. She was killing it.”

Soffer has portrayed Halstead since the NBC series debuted in 2014, appearing in every episode, as well as multiple episodes of “Chicago Med” and “Chicago Fire.”

Chicago BD It airs on NBC Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
