Elvis: Graceland’s upstairs office photo and beautiful recording shared by ex Linda Thompson | music | entertainment

When Elvis Presley first moved to Graceland in 1957, he had an open house policy for his inner circle, the Memphis Mafia. However, the upstairs was strictly by invitation only, with his space encircled by a first floor safety wall with one-way mirrors. This can be seen even from the bottom of the main staircase on the tour to this day.

At Lisa Marie’s request, Graceland’s upstairs was preserved exactly as Elvis left it in 1977, when he died of a heart attack in the bathroom there at only 42.

His daughter has told over the years how it feels to be the safest place in the world at the King’s Sanctuary. A kind of special shrine to his memory, the items are left in place as if the star had just risen and gone.

That includes a styrofoam cup on the shelf and a copy of JD Sumner and Stamps on the record player, the last cup he ever played.

The image includes a hand emoji indicating the member Elvis and Linda were sitting on with an original recording of the two playing, singing and laughing together.

The former King commented on the touching post: “Throwback Thursday…One of the many times Elvis and I were singing together and singing in tune…He learned all the sorority songs! Now that’s love! LOL! Alpha delta pi repostelvis_and_linda_gram.”
