‘Rings of Power’: Season finale promo announced, podcast

A week before “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” inaugural season wraps up, Amazon Prime Video premiered a new trailer for the season finale that promises “everything will be revealed.”

The trailer — which premiered at New York Comic-Con on Friday, as part of the Prime Video panel for “The Rings of Power” — was light on the new footage from the end, except for a clear glimpse of what appears to be a Celebrimbor’s fake, which will take place in Ultimately creating rings of honorary power. Other than that, the trailer recaps many of the biggest developments during Season 1, while promising that as Mordor rises, upon hire he will “drop” some heroes – and Sauron’s true identity will finally be revealed.

New York Comic-Con attendees were able to see more of the season finale. Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, who are currently overseeing production on season two of “The Rings of Power” from London, appeared remotely to share some behind-the-scenes footage from the show. Stars Cynthia Addai Robinson (Queen Regent Merrill), Nazanin Boniady (Bronwyn), Charles Edwards (Lord Celebrimbor), Leon Wadham (Kemin), Benjamin Walker (King Gil Galadon), Daniel Wyman (The Stranger) and Sarah Zwangobani (‘Goldie’ Plush’s back) Brandyfoot) personally on stage. Cast members said that season finale scripts were sent with parts they didn’t personally need to know redacted — no one had seen them or knew all that was going on.

Not that they were willing to share what they are an act also know. When I asked medium Felicia Day (“The Guild” and “Supernatural”) and Faith if his mysterious character was Sauron, Day added, “You probably can’t answer that.”

“I can, but I won’t,” said Wyman sarcastically. “Not this time.”

Day then turned to Edwards, whose character, Celebrimbor, was introduced in season one but hasn’t done much yet on the show. “Charles, can you talk about the rings?” asked today. “When will we see some of your sparkle?”

“There’s jewelry imminent,” the actor replied.

This revelation led to the creation of a passage from the epilogue that shows how the disparate perspective lines of the show converge. Galadriel (Morvid Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Supreme King Gil Galad (Benjamin Walker) and Celebrimbor stand around an anvil discussing Celebrimbor’s plan to channel the power of the mystical ore Mithril into a single being. Celebrimbor says he wants to make a crown – because the circle’s shape is perfect for the uninterrupted flow of power – that Gil Galad will wear. But the High King immediately rejects the idea, saying that this is too much power for one person – preparing the final decision to divide power into a series of rings.

Day also announced that she is hosting “The Official The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Podcast” for Amazon Music. All eight episodes, which will include interviews with Payne, McKay, and members of the cast, will premiere on October 14, the same day as the first season finale.

Earlier on Friday, Amazon Studios also announced that Fiona Apple – yes, Fiona apples Composer Bear McCreary collaborated on “Where the Shadows Lie” on the season finale of “The Rings of Power”. The song, written by McCreary and performed by Apple, derives from J.R.R. Tolkien’s poem “Using the Ring” for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, made famous with the sentence: “One loop rules them all., One loop to find them/One loop to bring them all, and in Darkness bind them.”

The song – currently only available on Amazon Music – was produced by McCreary, Apple and Andrew Slater, and engineered by Jason Laroca and David Way.
