Taylor Swift’s anti-hero music video: She’s having her own funeral

Taylor Swift meets the anti-hero version of Taylor Swift in the official music video for “Anti-Hero,” the first single from the Grammy winner’s new album, “Midnights.” So, what does anti-hero Taylor Swift look like? It’s a big mustache and will tear up all your worries. The “Anti-Hero” music video was directed by Swift herself, which is no surprise considering she’s been directing all of her music videos lately, from “The Man” to her short film “All Too Well.”

The highlight of the “Anti-Hero” music video comes in the middle when Swift holds her own funeral, which relates to the lyrics, “I have this dream my daughter-in-law is killing me for money/She thinks I left them at will.” Swift’s two children are played by comedians John Early and Mike Berpiglia. The music breaks for a piece of comedy in which Swift’s imaginary children collapse due to being left outside their mother’s control. The funeral descends into chaos.

The music video arrived eight hours after the release of “Midnights,” and five hours after Swift surprised fans by releasing a deluxe version of the album “3am” with seven additional tracks. Despite these new songs, Swift wrote on social media that the original 13 songs on the lead album represented her ultimate vision for “Midnight.” As she wrote, “These 13 songs make up a complete picture of the intensity of that crazy, bewildering hour.”

As always, Swift took to Instagram to shoot some behind-the-scenes photos from filming the “Anti-Hero” music video. The singer introduced the video by writing, “Watch nightmare scenarios and intrusive thoughts in real time.”
