Black Panther sets the Wakanda Forever Podcast, hosted by Ta-Nehisi Coates

“Wakanda Forever,” the podcast that dives deep into the making of the blockbuster sequel to “Black Panther,” begins next week.

Narrated by Ta-Nehisi Coates, the six-episode series, which features interviews with director Ryan Coogler, producer Kevin Feige, and star Angela Bassett, includes an audio-narrative narration of comic book legends. The first film opened in 2018 and was an instant hit, releasing to $202 million and eventually grossing $700.4 million domestically and $1.3 billion globally.

The follow-up film, which is expected to be another box office smash, centers on the leaders of Wakanda as they deal with the death of their ruler and struggle to protect their nation from the interference of world powers. Starring Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, and Winston Duke.

The first episode of the podcast highlighted a conversation between Coates and Coogler, who are back to write and direct the second part. Artists and friends reflect on Black Panther’s cultural influence and Bosman’s legacy and inspiration for the cast and crew.

Subsequent episodes will be available weekly in January 2023, tied to Black Panther’s fifth anniversary. Guests will include the cast and crew, including Bassett and Dominic Thorne. Recording, soundtrack and producer Ludwig Göransson; production designer Hannah Bechler; Director of Photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw; Co-writer Joe Robert Cole and producers Feige and Nate Moore.

“There is no storyteller that I admire more than Ryan Coogler,” Coates said. “Any opportunity to partner with him, Proximity Media and Marvel, is a worthy one. For this opportunity to serve as a realization of the making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was simply too good to pass up.”

Coates, who made his podcast hosting debut with Wakanda Forever, is the bestselling author of “Between the World and Me,” “The Beautiful Struggle,” “We Were Eight Years in Power,” and “Water Dancer.” He also wrote the “Black Panther” and “Captain America” series for Marvel Comics.

Proximity Head of Voice Paola Mardo serves as producer on the podcast, as well as executive producer alongside Proximity co-founders Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.

“Since Ryan, Zinzi and Saif commissioned the sound department at Proximity with this project, our goal has been to tell the story of the making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with as much heart and authenticity as the movie itself,” Mardu said. . “With our first episode, we’ve hit that goal while breaking new ground in the process, thanks to the fantastic collaboration between our awesome host Ta-Nehisi Coates, our talented podcast production team, and our Marvel and Disney collaborators.”

“Wakanda Forever” features story editing by James Kim, sound editing by Cameron Kell and Cedric Wilson, and additional sound and music design by Pat Mesiti-Miller. Sound engineering from Lauryn Newson, production assistance from Polina Cherezova.
