HBO Max’s “FBoy Island” has been canceled after two seasons

HBO Max has canceled ‘FBoy Island’ – a reality dating series that ran for two seasons.

Hosted by Nikki Glaser, the series followed three women who chose a potential boyfriend from a pool of 24 men by trying to select contestants from “young boys”, who were just there to have a good time, and who were “nice guys” genuinely looking for love.

The cancellation is not a shock. The status of a lot of HBO Max programming has been up in the air since the Warner Bros. merger closed. Discovery in April. This was especially true of unscripted content, as the discovery side of the business came with a copious list of unscripted offerings. This series appears to be in production on the Warner Bros. side. It has created redundant operations that are incompatible with CEO David Zaslav’s aggressive cost-cutting strategy. Zaslav has repeatedly emphasized the goal of finding $3 billion in synergy savings over the next three years, whose losses already included the nearly finished “Batgirl” movie and solid pieces from HBO Max’s back catalog that were quietly removed over the summer.

In July, a WBD insider said on the discovery side diverse On the upheaval affecting the unlisted division: “There have been layoffs and there have been fewer people doing more work. But I know more changes have been on Warner’s side.” In August, after confirming 70 layoffs across HBO and HBO Max, chief content officer Casey Bloys sent out a memo outlining how scripting would become a key focus for the brand, which “includes an honest assessment of what we need going forward.”

Besides “FBoy Island,” HBO Max’s unscripted slate includes shows like “Selena + Chef,” “Legendary,” “The Big Brunch,” “Sweet Life: Los Angeles,” and “Kraftopia.” No non-HBO Max series have been renewed since the merger.

“FBoy Island” was produced by STXalternative and created by Elan Gale. Gale executive produced TheYearOfElan Productions alongside Jason Goldberg for STXalternative, Ben Bitonti, Glaser, and Sam Dean, who also served as showrunner.
