Ice Cube wants full control of the “Friday” movie franchise, but says Warner Bros. stands in his way. Appearing on the most recent episode of Mike Tyson’s podcast “Hotboxin'”, Cube urged the studio to give him the rights to the franchise and dismissed the possibility of him buying the rights from the studio itself. Cube starred in and wrote three “Friday” movies, all of which were produced and distributed by New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. owns. Now New Line, so Cube can’t move forward with a fourth “Friday” movie without the studios’ blessing.
“I don’t know. Warner Brothers It’s weird now,” Cube said when asked about a fourth “Friday” movie, which would be titled “Last Friday.” “I don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know what to do. We’d like it back. I think it will be close to the time we get it back. So, we’ll either wait for that time, or we’ll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It’s my movie, but they have control over the distribution.”
When Tyson asked Cube if he would just pay to take back the rights to his control, Cube replied, “I can’t afford it. Damn no. They should give it to me, and they’ll make money. I’m not about to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid. They need to.” Do the right thing, get it to us, and let’s turn it into more money, make the fans happy… We can do a lot with it.”
