The Kennedy Center has been honoring scores for the highest ratings since 2019

CBS’ special “The 45th Annual Kennedy Center Honors Show” reached 5.34 million viewers Wednesday, making it the No. 1 nightly show in total viewers, according to Nielsen’s final national live and same-day numbers show.

With a 0.7 rating among the 25-54 demographic between the 8-10pm hours, the episode received the show’s highest ratings since December 15, 2019.

Having bested its closest competitor in the timeslot by over 1.8 million viewers, this year’s special won both half-hours in total viewership. The numbers also reveal that the Kennedy Center Honors hosted a strong audience for the entirety of the two-hour program. Audience numbers grew in the second half of the hour with 95% of its audience remaining from the 9:00 p.m. Overall, viewership of “Kennedy Honors Center” was up 25% compared to the previous year, which recorded 4.28 million viewers.

On the broadcast side, the special ranked as the #1 most streamed live entertainment program on Paramount+. It has also appeared on CBS TVE, which includes the CBS app, and CBS.com.

On social media, according to CBS, there have been 225 million potential impressions and 10,000 mentions logged over the past two days — which is a 12% increase in potential impressions and a 25% jump in mentions from last year’s ceremony. A special hashtag, #KennedyCenterHonors, topped Twitter’s top 10 in the US last night and peaked at #7.

This year’s ceremony, which was filmed on Dec. 4, featured an appearance by actor George Clooney, who was honored alongside singers Amy Grant, Gladys Knight, Tanya Lyon, and U2. Highlights of the night included a tribute to U2 featuring Harry Styles, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, and Sean Penn, and an appearance from Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat, who reads a fake letter from the Kazakh president.
