Water Lock is one of the useful tools you’ll find on your Apple Watch, and it does exactly what it says. Here’s how to enable it.
If you’ve purchased a new Apple Watch, like the Apple Watch Ultra, you may have noticed the Water Lock toggle in Control Center. This feature, as its name suggests, prevents touch input from interacting with water so that water droplets don’t interact with the screen. This way, when you take a shower, swim, or handle a stream of water, watchOS 9 won’t register every drop as a touch. After all, the screen can’t necessarily differentiate between your finger and water in terms of touch input. Here are the steps you need to follow to enable or disable water lock.
How to use the water lock on watchOS
- open the Control Center on your Apple Watch by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
- Click on water lock The button with the water drop symbol.

- When you stop exposing your Apple Watch to water, dry its screen with a soft towel, and press and hold digital crown To remove the water lock. You can edit a file digital crown Once your watch starts beeping and letting out water.
We recommend that anyone who swims or showers enable Water Lock if they wear their Apple Watches. Otherwise, water droplets can be launched and tamper with installed watchOS apps or call/message other people. If you have an older Apple Watch, you may also want to avoid exposing it to water entirely, as water resistance wears out over time.
