Trade rumors were circulating when two of the New York Yankees’ top potential players were pulled from their game on July 24.
The August 2 trading deadline is fast approaching, and attention is focused on post-season contenders. The New York Yankees fit the bill, as they had the best MLS record in entering All-Stars. They have been linked to players such as Cincinnati Reds pitcher Luis Castillo and Washington Nationals quarterback Juan Soto, and most recently, they were reportedly “serious rivals” to Kansas City Royals player Andrew Benentende.
Yankees fans had to fall for it when they heard that both Jason Dominguez and Trey Sweeney were pulled from New York’s High A team of the Hudson Valley Renegades on July 24.

To make things even more interesting, Sweeney was pulled out of the game only when he was about to hit the course.
Dominguez has been touted for many years as one of the best potential players in baseball, already earning comparisons to Mike Trout, Bo Jackson, and Mickey Mantell. It currently ranks third overall for New York in their farm system. He was called up to High-A this season, and Huge success in MLB Futures Game At Dodger Stadium.
Sweeney, on the other hand, is the sixth-ranked holder in the pipeline. He’s a short player, but it’s Anthony Volpi, who’s already fifth in baseball, and Oswald Perazza, number two in the New York pipeline.
