UNC Tar heels are trending on Sweet Sixteen. Here’s who will be waiting for them with a chance to advance to the Elite Eight.
The Round of 32 got off to an exciting start, as the defending champion faced National Champion Baylor Bears, the eighth seed UNC Tar Heels. It looked as if the two tar-heels were chasing victory, but their 25-point lead in the second half was gone, and Brady Mannick was sent off for a blatant foul and the Bears were forced into overtime. However, North Carolina shut things down, achieving a 93-86 win.
With that, the tar heel reached Sweet Sixteen. But, who would they face for a chance to reach the Elite Eight?
March Madness arc update: Who will play UNC next?
The Tar Heels will face the winner of the UCLA Bruins Match No. 4 and No. 5 Saint Mary’s Gaels. This match will end at 7:10 PM later in the night.
Saint Mary’s team defeated the 12th seed Indiana Hoosiers 82-53. As for UCLA, they overcame a surprise attempt by No. 13 Akron Zipps to win 57-53.
Against Baylor, goalkeeper RJ Davis took a 30-point lead while shooting 8-for-17 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Davis sealed the win in overtime. With Tar Heels 88-85, Davis drove to the basket and nailed a layup and earned a one-and-a-half to secure extending their lead to 91-85 with just over a minute remaining in overtime.
So you have North Carolina fans, who will face either UCLA or Saint Mary’s at Sweet Sixteen.
