The New England Patriots patiently began their service at the NFL Free Agency.
While the New England Patriots were big spenders on the NFL free agency a year ago, they’re back to the old way of doing things this spring by playing the wait game.
The Patriots benefited greatly by being big spenders in the first wave of free agency last year. Keep in mind that the 2020 Patriots were the worst team New England had seen in 20 years. They had to rebuild this team super fast that way. However, by taking their time and lying on the tall grass, the Patriots are making smarter business decisions in the second wave of NFL free agency.

New England Patriots make smart moves in second wave of Free Agency
While the Patriots have had their fair share of ups and downs in the NFL draft, they do a better job winning at free agency and especially on the waiver wire than anyone else. That’s because head coach Bill Belichick is an incredible professional scout. For years, he’s seen what other teams don’t see in their underutilized players. He is able to make smart financial decisions in talent acquisition.
Although Brown and Fortnite are big names in their respective position groups, Belichick and the rest of the New England brass didn’t have to pay a total premium for good, but not great players like the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown’s return to New England was somewhat of a shock, but he played his best ball for the Patriots. As far as Fortnite is concerned, he has wisely decided to wait for it to be over.
He’s a player who has been rumored to have followed Deshaun Watson to Atlanta had he been traded to the Falcons. Fournette has seen a revival in his career with Tampa Bay, but he may go elsewhere to get the right status and dollar amount. New England has some moneybut that’s all about playing with Belichick and helping bring in the sophomore quarterback at Mac Jones.
Belichick is keenly aware that the value in free agency comes in the second and third waves.
