Urban Meyer has no idea who Aaron Donald and Depo Samuel are

Urban Mayer had no idea who Aaron Donald, Depo Samuel and Jamal Adams were before he became the short-lived coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In Jayson Jenks and Mike Sando’s Feature for the athleteApparently, former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Mayer had no idea about NFL stars such as Aaron Donald, Debo Samuel and Jamal Adams.

While Mayer admitted that he never watched the NFL prior to getting the Jaguars gig, one would think that players of such notoriety were on the radars of unofficial NFL fans. Samuel spent a year with the San Francisco 49ers, but Donald is a legend for the Los Angeles Rams and Adams was a standout player who dropped out of college when he was with the New Yorkers.

Mayer may have been a college student through and through, but how did he not know about the legendary Pete, a prominent DBU safety and an incredible playmaker from South Carolina?

Urban Meyer had no clue as to the identity of Aaron Donald, Depo Samuel, and Jamal Adams

Hindsight is 20/20 but there were plenty of red flags when it came to Jacksonville hiring Mayer in the first place. While it’s understandable for a college coach not to exhaust bandwidth on the NFL if they didn’t plan to train there, it’s incomprehensible that former college stars weren’t even on their radar. These are the Power Five schools that send players to the league regularly.

Even if Meyer had a tunnel vision focused solely on the Big Ten during his Ohio State career, it wasn’t as if this trio of guys were overlooked in college. These were the best players in their teams as top players. This would be like admitting not knowing an all-American offensive lineman or a tight end from Iowa because he plays more in the Big Ten West. How was this possible?

In the end, Jaguar’s cars were in much better shape with Doug Pederson than Mayer. Pederson had been in the NFL for decades as an attack-minded coach and former reserve quarterback before that. He won the Super Bowl in a very difficult place in Philadelphia. If he can bring the birds to the promised land, then surely Pederson can help return Jacksonville to national importance.

Meyer has proven that it is impossible to win matches when you know who the best players are.
