Before pulling the trade off for relegation Matt Ryan of Atlanta, the Indianapolis Colts had been hoping to sign James Winston.
There’s been a lot of movement with the quarterbacks this season, and it’s almost hard to follow. In the end, Jameis Winston ended up re-signing with the New Orleans Saints, but it looks like the Indianapolis Colts were looking forward to him as well.
According to Saints Insider Nick Underhill, The ponies were ready to send a private jet to Winston To bring him on a visit. Instead, Winston decided New Orleans was where he wanted to call his home country for the next two seasons.

This update from Underhill shows how serious the Colts are about making Winston their primary quarterback. In the end, Winston decided to stay in town with the Saints, while the ponies surprised everyone in trading for Matt Ryan.
Ryan’s trade felt like it came out of nowhere for the Molts, but fans are excited about what the South Asian veteran can do. Things did not go as planned last year with Carson Wentz, disappointing the previous first round in 2021. Andy decided to move on from Wentz, replacing him with the Washington captains.
Switching from Wentz to Ryan is quite an upgrade, but there will also be a lot of people who will still wonder what it would have been like if Winston signed the Colts for New Orleans.
Despite this, Ryan is already in Indianapolis and excited for the next chapter of his career after so many great memories with Atlanta. With Winston, he will be ready to return after suffering a rupture in the AFC Champions League last season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
