On the first night of Sweet 16 of the 2022 NCAA Championship, fans watched the top-ranked teams in Gonzaga and Arizona get dumped to break a slew of arcs. The only team that has outdone them is the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils.

In an exciting and closely contested game, Duke defeated the 3rd seed Texas Tech Red Raiders 78-73 to advance to the Elite Eight. Not only that, but coach Mike Krzyzewski’s career continued.

Here’s what the college basketball media had to say after Duke advanced to the Western Regional Finals.

One of the reasons Duke was able to hold out more than Texas Tech was because they got the most out of their shots. In the entire second half, the Blue Devils made 68.4 percent of their shots, leading to 49 points after they trailed 33-29 in the first half.

Perhaps the most important point scored in the entire match came from the Duke’s goalkeeper Jeremy Roach. Roach led 71-68 with just over a minute left in order, and a two-point shot took the Blue Devils victory.

Roach finished the night scoring 15 points while shooting 7 to 11 from the field. Paulo Banchero led the team in points, placing 22 points (7 for 12 from the field), while also scoring four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Bryson Williams led the way for the Red Raiders, placing 21 points while shooting 50 percent from the field (8 for 16).

With this victory, Krzyzewski achieved his 100th professional championship win, and became the first coach to ever achieve this.

Duke will try to clinch his first Final Four appearance since 2015. To do so, they will have to defeat the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks at the Elite Eight. Arkansas carried a lot of momentum, as they were the team that eliminated Gonzaga from the NCAA Championship.
