Kevin Colbert throws cold water on Teran Mathieu rumors

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are hoping the team will sign free safety agent Teran Mathew whose dreams have been shattered by general manager Kevin Colbert.

The 2022 NFL is two weeks away, and Tyrann Mathieu is still a free security customer. The Kansas City Chiefs chose to move on from Matthew, hiring Justin Reed as his replacement. With Matthew on the open market, fan bases are calling for their team to chase after him.

For Pittsburgh Steelers fans hoping Matthew ends up with the team, general manager Kevin Colbert has ended their hopes, saying he’s looking to target young veteran players. You can read Colbert’s comments below, courtesy of ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

Steelers: Kevin Colbert throws cold water on team signature Terran Mathieu

Based on his comments, Matthew is not on the team’s radar, although they need to be safe. Matthew is coming off his fourth contract in the NFL, and his last three-year, $42 million contract was with The Chiefs.

Matthew is about to enter a 30-year-old season in the NFL, and he’s playing at a high level. Last season, Al-Aman scored 76 tackles in total, six defensive passes, three interceptions, three tackles recovery, and one sack in 16 games.

The Steelers are heading into their first season in a while without Ben Roethlisberger playing a quarterback. Pittsburgh has to face quarterbacks Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson in the division. Not only in North Asia, but the entire conference is full of caller signs. Therefore, secondary stage support can be pivotal for the Steelers.

But when it comes to Tyrann Mathieu being the team’s safe new start, that doesn’t seem to be in Colbert’s plans.
