After trading Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers and Packers need a No. 1 wide receiver. Could an AFC All-Star deal be in the cards?
Perhaps the worst in the NFL with the draft fast approaching is that the Green Bay Packers need a wide receiver. There has been a lot of speculation that the franchise will finally use the first-round pick on the pass lane to aid Aaron Rodgers as well as talk about other potential moves, most recently taking the swing to trade with DK Metcalf.
But what if there was a black horse commercial candidate hiding in plain sight and the Green Bay Company could make a move for it?
Podcast host Locked On Packers Peter Bukowski pointed this out on Twitter Good morning football Host Peter Schrager has said several times on the show that he’d like to see Kenan Allen’s current large-scale chargers on the packages. Then Bukowski noted that the Chargers had just paid Mike Williams big money and could save $16.5 million if they traded Allen after June 1.
Packers Rumors: Could Green Bay Do Business With Kenan Allen?
First it’s important to note that that’s it, at this point, just talk about a logical move. But it almost makes sense to ignore this possibility, even if there aren’t any current rumors about the trade.
Allen would be a great addition to the Green Bay offense. While most people would put him below Davante Adams in terms of star power, the 29-year-old is like the receiver who now calls Las Vegas home in many ways. In particular, both of them are not necessarily fast or overwhelmingly physical players, but they have achieved massive success due to their technical prowess and their track style.
Would chargers be interested in giving up Allen? This is definitely the biggest piece of the puzzle to make this trade possible even from a distance. But with Williams pushing for the season and getting close to needing Justin Herbert’s Brinks truck support as he enters his third year, Los Angeles could start looking for more wiggle room under the salary cap. Allen’s trade will provide that.
Again, this is all guesswork now. But with someone like Schrager mentioning him so many times and with the sense that this move can make for both sides, it’s something worth keeping in the back of your mind as we delve deeper into the off season.
