Chan Sung Jung seems to show how much he has grown between title fights.
UFC 273 is set for Saturday and features two major bouts at the top of the card. Alexander Volkanovsky is looking to continue his work to become the best featherweight ever and the next step is to take on a former title contender at Chan Sung Jung. Jung, a fan favorite, is willing to do whatever is necessary to get the title.
With a professional record of 17-6, Jung is marching on his second chance to become the UFC Featherweight Champion. The first came nearly a decade ago when Jose Aldo defeated him via TKO again at UFC 163. This time around, Jung is expected to be more prepared for battle.
“When I got ready for my first title fight, I was really nervous,” Jung said during UFC 273 media day. “I was really young, so at that age, the challenge for the world title was really annoying for me. But now, I feel like I’m getting older because I’m less nervous, and I’m more experienced. I’m more ready to fight than I was preparing for the Aldo fight.”
Since dropping the championship title in 2013, Jung has made a 4-2 run in the octagon. This schedule includes the mandatory military service that he is obligated to perform as a Korean. During that tour, he racked up impressive victories over Denis Bermudez, Renato Moicano, Frankie Edgar and most recently Dan Egg. He has faced many fighters with a wide range of skills, and these experiences are key to his performance at UFC 273.
“I’ve been fighting with exceptionally strong fighters in a certain way,” Young said. “Volkanovsky is well balanced compared to these fighters. I think I can finish Volkanovski in all these areas. I am better than Volkanovski in all areas in mixed martial arts.”
Volkanovski could take an important name in MMA history with featherweight
Volkanovsky is looking to complete his third title defense of 145 pounds. He won the belt again at UFC 245 by defeating Max Holloway. He last competed at UFC 266 where he defeated Brian Ortega by unanimous decision.
UFC 273: Alexander Volkanovsky vs. Korean Zombies takes place on Saturday, April 9, 2022, live from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Follow up with FanSided MMA for all the news and highlights.
