Some of the big names have left Dallas over the holiday period, leaving the NFL Draft as the place the Cowboys needed to find influential players.
Despite a period of displacement that saw a lot of talented players move from the NFC to the AFC, the Dallas Cowboys feel like a dip in the NFC hierarchy. Salary cap problems forced the Cowboys to trade Amary Cooper for the Cleveland Browns and cut off the right start to Lyle Collins, creating massive insult holes that Dallas needed to fill.
Randy Gregory’s unexpected departure when the deal appeared to be done also adds more emphasis to Dallas’ need to add a traffic accelerator, creating more specific needs for Jerry Jones to address than when we did our previous mock Cowboys draft. Let’s take a look at a free post agency on what Dallas could do with its nine picks in the 2022 draft.

Jones strongly pointed out that the construction of trenches His priority will be with Dallas being selected for the first round. This makes Penning, a massive offensive tackle from Northern Iowa, a smart choice to try and fill Collins’ boots on the right tackle.
There will certainly be a jump in the competition with Penning, who played en masse in Northern Iowa, but the Cowboys can help his development by placing him next to the permanent All-Pro Zack Martin. Penning could be a formidable asset in the running game, which will take on more focus in Dallas with Cooper’s departure, as he knows how to use his imposing frame to sink defenders.
This choice would be a good long-term investment for the Cowboys as well because Penning could start his career on the right and slide left in the future to succeed Tyron Smith. The odds of Penning staying until the Dallas pick in the second round are slim, so the Cowboys should pounce if he’s available.
