Clayton Kershaw didn’t get a chance to finish a perfect match and this isn’t the first time Dave Roberts has prevented a bowler from trying.
Six outs. Only six outs. That’s all Clayton Kershaw needs to have a perfect game as the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
Kershaw threw a very manageable number of pitches and was thriving. There is an argument to be made to leave him in the game since there is a very good chance he could have finished a perfect match.
But, well, Dave Roberts did the opposite. After running 7.0 runs, Kershaw was pulled from the game.
It made a lot of people on the internet very upset.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time Roberts has done something like this. Of course, it’s not like he used to stop his shooting from getting a perfect match, but he’s done it before. According to ESPN Stats and Info, Rich Hill, in 2016, ended up out of a match against the Marlins.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Dave Roberts pulls Clayton Kershaw before he can throw a perfect match
Given the nature of the perfect game and how hard it really is to throw it, it comes as no surprise that people on Twitter had some thoughts about Kershaw not getting a chance to finish this game.
Roberts ended up pissing off a lot of people with this decision. Everyone seems to have some kind of thoughts they’d like to share on this issue.
Roberts’ decision was controversial. He’s trying to protect his pitcher, whose arm may not have been as strong as it was earlier in his career, which makes a lot of sense for the Dodgers to do so. It’s still frustrating for many because of how rare perfect games are.
