The 2022 season has been a series of ups and downs for Green Bay Packers fans. On the bright side, Aaron Rodgers is a long way around. Unfortunately, he will move forward as the quarterback for the team without Davante Adams after the star’s wide-trading deal sent the Las Vegas Raiders.
While the front office’s decision to move Adams makes sense, it left the slate in desperate need of a wide receiver afterwards. Most assume that Green Bay is set to invest heavily in the center at the end of April and the NFL draft.
Just two weeks before Roger Goodell starts reading names on the podium, the Packers aren’t waiting for that opportunity. After meeting with veteran receiver and former major Sammy Watkins, ESPN’s Adam Shifter reports that the club has signed him to a one-year contract worth up to $4 million.

Watkins started his career with the Buffalo Bills as a 2014 first-round pick for Clemson and demonstrated his incredible talent early on with over 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first two seasons. Unfortunately, infections started to reduce it after that and overall production plummeted.
This led to him moving to the Rams for a season before spending three years with the Chiefs. Although he was not the first choice in the explosive Kansas City crime, he was an undeniable factor – again, when he was healthy. Last year, he played 13 games for the Baltimore Ravens, scoring 27 of 49 goals for 394 yards and one touchdown.
Yes, Watkins is not the player who was dropping out of college. Age and injuries have changed what he brings to the table. Thus, it will not be a substitute for Adams in any way.
At the same time, Al-Baker lacks depth and quality. Bringing a veteran like Watkins to pair up with a potential rookie team or a potential junior receiving corps in general makes a lot of sense and comes to them at little cost.
