After recently diagnosed with cancer, Toronto Blue Jays host Buck Martinez will be moving away from the cabin so he can focus on receiving treatments and so he can take care of his health.
The news was shared via Twitter by SportsnetPR, Sportsnet’s PR arm. In the tweet, SportsnetPR shared a statement from Martinez. According to the statement, Sunday’s game between the Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics will be Martinez’s “last game in the booth for some time” due to a cancer diagnosis.
Martinez also shared in his statement, “It is an honor and a privilege to have the support of Blue Jays fans, teammates, staff and players” and has had such support from them since his “arrive” [in Toronto] in 1981.”
According to Martinez, the support he has as he faces “this next challenge means so is the world [him]. “

Martinez has stated that he is “grateful to a phenomenal medical team” and that he is optimistic about his battle with cancer.
“I hope to be back with my Sportsnet teammates for extended runs later in the season, but in the meantime I’ll be watching from the sidelines as I battle the good,” Martinez wrote.
Martinez also stated that he is grateful to those who respect his privacy as he deals with this.
Unsurprisingly, the Blue Jays rallied around Martinez and made a statement of support for him after his announcement.
