AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling have announced that they will be holding a joint pay-per-view event on June 26.

When All Elite Wrestling CEO Tony Kahn makes an announcement, it’s sure to be a huge one. Khan’s latest announcement, revealed that he has bought Ring of Honor. So what was in store for the April 20 episode of Dynamite?

Prior to his announcement, Khan invited New Japan Pro Wrestling President Takami Ohbari to the stage. They were then interrupted by wrestler Adam Cole, who revealed that on June 26 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, the two companies will hold a joint pay-per-view event called Forbidden Door.

Here are Khan and Aubrey’s official statements, Via press release:

“As the world continues to reopen, I’m making sure Forbidden Door follows suit and we can finally give fans the dream events they’ve always imagined,” Khan, H/R of AEW’s official website said. United Center was home to one of AEW’s biggest events of all time, The First Dance, where CM Punk returned to wrestling after a seven-year hiatus. This summer, AEW and NJPW fans can expect the unexpected during this exceptional pay-per-view, The first of its kind between our two great companies.”

Ohbari said, “As we have done for over 50 years, the power of wrestling can energize people by making their dreams come true. Now, it is a very important task for us, the wrestling industry as a whole. We are not only opening that door. We will show you the strong, original NJPW style behind Forbidden Door.

Cole wasn’t the only wrestler to boycott the ad. “Switchblade” Jay White took to the podium, stating that he was part of a two companies event. This was the 2019 G1 Supercard show between NJPW and ROH at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

AEW x NJPW No door, time and place

As mentioned, the United Center will host the PPV in Chicago, Illinois, which takes place on June 26. The show will initially be announced as starting at 7 PM ET, but that likely means that the PPV itself won’t start until 8 PM ET, which is the normal start time for AEW shows.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Match Card

No matches have been announced for the Forbidden Door event as of this writing.

However, Cole revealed that he will play a qualifying match in the Owen Hart Foundation Championship against Tomohiro Ishii at the Rampage on Friday, April 22nd.

Forbidden Door tickets will go on sale May 6 at 11 AM ET on AEWTix.com and Tickemaster.com.

The event can be purchased in the US by paying per view and via the Bleacher Report app. The offer will be available for purchase at NJPWworld.com In Japan and beyond Fit TV in international markets.
