Who are the five coaches finding themselves on the bench this season?

Each member of an organization plays major roles in their team’s successes and/or failures during a regular MLB season. Unfortunately, there is usually only one person whose job is automatically at risk once the team starts to struggle.

Manager.

With every team there will be ups and downs. Some teams like the Orioles, Tigers and Rangers have been horrible over the past few seasons, but have respected coaches leading their club, so much so that their contracts have already been extended beyond the 2022 season.

However, some teams have higher expectations than others and when they start to deteriorate in the rankings, the manager finds himself in the hot seat very quickly.

Let’s take a look at five MLB managers who may be out of work soon.

1. Philadelphia Phillies captain Joe Girardi

Joe GirardiKnown as the manager of the New York Yankees for an incredible period from 2008 to 2017, winning the World Championship and three Middle East division titles, he is entering his third season as the Phillies captain.

Since taking over from Gabe Kapler during the 2019-20 season as manager of the Phillies, Girardi has managed to score 114-118 in a baseball city that demands success. 2020 has been a rough year for both the manager and the players, especially bowling. Over 60 games in the 2020 season cut short by COVID, Bullpen Phills gave up 14 leads and finished the season with 7.06 ERA, the highest ever thrown in any pen in the past 90 years.

To his credit, Girardi was able to turn things around and make the team their first winning season since 2011 last season when he led the club to a record 82-80. With Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber now in place, there’s no excuse for a disappointing performance in 2022.

Gerardi has plenty of post-season experience as a player and coach, but his time at Philly may be coming to an end. The 64-year-old’s contract in Philadelphia will expire at the conclusion of the 2022 season, but the club has an option on him for the 2023 season if they choose to take it.

As Gabrielle Starr from FanSided recently coveredGirardi was hired by Matt Klintak’s regime, and since Dave Dombrowski is now in charge of things, he may choose not to pick the leader’s choice and pick someone else to his liking.
