Twitter voids referee after Liz Carmouche wins the title

Liz Carmouche shocks Juliana Velasquez in a controversial finale at Bellator 278.

After years in the fighting game, Liz Carmouche finally made it to the top of the mountain by pissing off Juliana Velasquez for the Bellator flyweight title at Bellator 278, but that didn’t come without controversy.

He started working with Carmouche being the most aggressive and pushing forward fighter in the first minutes. But, Velazquez had her fair share of success in the opening round leaving it straight on the body and head.

The pace started picking up in the second round when Velazquez brought down Carmusch with a massive left punch. Carmusch was able to survive and score a goal, clashing with Velazquez to decide the majority in the second round.

Velazquez received another big knockout in the third round and was able to stuff Carmusch’s takedown attempts. But in the fourth round, Carmush received a major takedown followed by a series of brutal elbows that forced referee Mike Beltran to end the fight.

The hiatus seemed a bit too quick for most fans on social media, but Carmush is leaving Hawaii as the new champ in the Bellator flyweight.

Here’s what Twitter had to say about Liz Carmouche’s controversial win over Juliana Velasquez

Velasquez entered her last Belator flyweight title defense undefeated in her mixed martial arts career. She won her first defense in a split decision against Dennis Kielholtz after winning the belt against Elima Lee MacFarlane.

Velasquez, known for her strong judo background, has shown significant improvements on her feet during her past few fights. She quickly became one of Bellator’s most dominant fighters.

Carmouche has been considered one of the main pioneers in women’s MMA, stemming from her inaugural UFC heavyweight fight against Ronda Rousey. She’s looked going strong since joining Bellator in 2020, earning finalists on Kana Watanabe and DeAnna Bennett.

By defeating Velasquez, Carmush begins Bellator’s return to Hawaii by winning the flyweight title. After an end that will be debated for months, it appears that a rematch between Carmush and Velasquez is imminent.
