What happened in Webber Almeida’s baffling battle against Fabricio Franco

The battle of Fabricio Franco and Webber Almeida ended in a very confusing manner.

The final battle of the Bellator 278 prelims ended somewhat confusingly. Weber Almeida faced Fabricio Franco to shut down the raw side of things and their fight was a wild story, well let’s call them the low blows.

First, Franco was tied to a closed knee that brought down Almeida, causing the fighting to stop. Almeida recovered after being dumped and returned to the work we went to. One nutcracker was enough, right? Well, no. Franco this time, was the recipient and was shot down by what appeared to be a bullet from Almeida.

It looked as if Almeida’s kick had pecked the edge of Franco’s thigh, and any man will tell you, that can be just as painful as a direct shot. Franco fell to the ground and you could tell he was in pain.

However, upon further review, it wasn’t his boys who took the hit…it was his inner thigh.

While it would be unfair to say Franco didn’t suffer some kind of injury, as we don’t know, it certainly seemed like Franco was trying to beat Will Smith for a better performance than he was trying to defeat Almeida in a real fight.

The referee gave Franco time to recover at first, but after speaking in his cage and seeing the rematch, the referee told Franco that there was no foul and that he would either need to get up and continue or call a fight.

Franco still holding his children, could not answer the call and the referee stopped the fight.

There will be a clear debate about whether or not Franco’s injury is legitimate, and hopefully an explanation will be provided.
