A day after fans dump trash on guard players, the Yankees are taking extra safety precautions to protect opposing players.
Yankees fans targeted guards players Oscar Mercado and Miles Straw after the home team returned for a win. Straw even climbed a fence to yell at some Bronx supporters head-on, which certainly isn’t a situation any player should find themselves in.
Fans can direct all the barbs they want to the players (to an extent of course), but there is a limit. When objects are thrown from the stands at players, this line is crossed.
Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Guardians, the Yankees added extra safety to the field to ensure that Saturday’s unfortunate events did not happen again.
for every New York PostA team spokesperson said, “There will be additional security measures at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon as the Yankees host the Guardians. About an hour before the first Sunday, there appeared to be a security guard stationed in the front row of the right court seats and another in the adjacent section. For the guard disc in the center-left field.”

Even Yankees players rushed to the field after the celebration ended, noticing the melee taking place near the Bleacher creatures.
Baseball fans are passionate – it’s part of what makes the game great. And while it’s unfair to dismiss one team, this isn’t the first time fans in the Bronx have dumped opposing players.
However, throughout baseball and professional sports, fans are getting bolder. Earlier this weekend, a Padres fan threw a full beer at Dodgers player Cody Bellinger.
Please, don’t be that fan.
