Kenny Pickett’s first-round pick will dominate all of the Steelers’ draft titles, but Pittsburgh needs to focus on day two odds.
The Steelers’ 2022 NFL Draft class will ultimately be judged on whether or not Kenny Beckett has established himself as a quality starting quarterback. This does not mean that the front office in Pittsburgh can ignore the rest of the choices at their disposal.
Day two could be very important for the Steelers roster that still needs to meet some other important needs. High school improvement should be a priority for Pittsburgh. They also want to add a young attacking man who can help keep Beckett upright. Steelers fans should keep a close eye on these predictions as their team goes off the clock in 52nd place.
NFL Draft 2022: Who should the Steelers tackle on Day Two?
Jaquan Brisker, Safety, Pennsylvania
Minkah Fitzpatrick is the well-meaning star of the Steelers in one security location, but Terrell Edmunds isn’t the long-term solution in the other. Brisker is just the kind of physical freak that could give Pittsburgh the best tandem safety in the league.
The former Penn State star has the sportsmanship and attitude that Mike Tomlin loves to see in his defensive appearances. He can cover a dangerous ground in the final third but he’s not afraid of a big hit. If he’s still on the board when Pittsburgh picks up the second round, he could still be in the state for his career.
Bernard Rayman, goalkeeper/intervention, Midfielder
Raimann thrives as an attacking navigator when he’s allowed out into space to make his own block. He’ll need to improve his physicality at the next level but the Steelers can be patient with his development.
Some scouts think he might be best suited as a very mobile ranger at the next level. Pittsburgh could use guard assistance or intervention. Raimann would be a smart choice for the Steelers on day two.
Boy Maffei, Edge, Minnesota
The Steelers can never have enough outside players who are able to speed up passersby at a high level. Mafe may take some time to develop, but it could be better than Alex Highsmith in a year or two. That’s enough upside to justify the Steelers’ second-round pick.
Roger McCreary, Cornerback, Auburn
McCreary isn’t the biggest corner kick in the draft, but he has a truly competitive streak that would appeal to the Steelers’ front desk. Combine that with his ability to play outside or in the hole, and it’s easy to see why he made it to Pittsburgh.
Cam Jurgens, guard/center, Nebraska
The Steelers would like to get tougher up front and adding Jurgens to the mix would help them do that. He’s got a little Maurkice Pouncey for him college bar Which will really catch Tomlin’s attention. Pittsburgh fans should be excited if their team becomes in the second round.
