Wilson Contreras talks about sharing the field for the first time at Majors level with Brother William.
Cubs star holder Wilson Contreras had a useful moment ahead of Thursday night’s game at Troist Park as the Cubs lost 5-1 to the Braves compared to the excitement he shared with his younger brother William Contreras.
After receiving news that the Braves had promoted William and the two would face off in the Big League for the first time, Wilson struggled to hide his feelings. The two brothers hugged for a long time on the board before last night’s match as they both exchange deck cards in celebration.
After the match, when asked to detail what made him cry, Wilson relayed his thoughts, reflecting on the brothers’ journey from Venezuela to sharing the field together in the Majors. “Because I remember watching him play in a minor league and we were all close. We are brothers, we never fought, we support each other and these are memories I will never forget.”
Cubs’ Wilson Contreras reacted to inviting Brother William to the Braves roster
Wiping away tears, he added, “I always remember those moments when we both felt at home, it’s your dream to be signed by someone and [dream] To get to the major tournaments. And I cry because I’m proud of the job we put together to get where we are. … It’s really hard to get an international signature, because there’s a lot of competition.”
The Braves used William as their primary catcher last year while Travis Darno has recovered from the injury. As part of the Braves roster, he was recalled after Manny Pina was placed on the injured list. Wilson could not have been more proud to call his younger brother back and give him this opportunity to share the field.
The Contreras brothers’ game, despite their opposing league baseball uniforms, appears to have outdone any feud over the loss. They will obviously cherish this emotional moment for years to come.
