Since the Pittsburgh Steelers have brought in some new players through the draft, they may find they’re interested in getting some veterans off their roster.
The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to pass the 2022 NFL Draft and make some interesting picks along the way. Not every pick looks amazing, but the Steelers did a decent job during the draft, all things considered.
Now, after the draft, Pittsburgh is moving on and working on becoming a relevant team again. As the Steelers move forward, it would probably be wise for them to consider moving on from a few different players already on their roster.
Here are three players the Steelers could decide to exclude from their roster.
2022 NFL Draft: 3 Players The Pittsburgh Steelers Could Cut After NFL Draft
No. 3: Benny Snell Jr..
After a solid career with the Kentucky Wildcats, Benny Snell Jr. wasn’t really active as a Steelers contributor. Drafted in 2019, Snell only managed to get 892 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 255 buggies. With Nagy Harris seemingly taking over the running back and the Steelers out and bringing in Matthew Durant and Jaylene Warren as undecided free agents, it seems unlikely that Pittsburgh will fully stick to Snell for success.
Snell’s severance won’t have the sort of major impact on the Steelers financially as he only has one season left in his current contract, but it will create space for another player who may be able to make an even bigger impact in the long run. He runs.
#2: Cody White
Despite the fact that he made his NFL debut last season, Cody White’s presence on this list clearly didn’t have much of an impact on Pittsburgh’s performance on the field. Granted, White didn’t have many opportunities to make an impact.
There’s nothing wrong with Pittsburgh deciding to keep him to see if he can develop into a serious receiving option or a contributor to consistent special teams, but the Steelers will likely be in good shape if they decide to move on from White.
To date, White has played in 15 matches, most of which have appeared in special team settings. Given that Pittsburgh just picked up two receivers in the draft, there seems to be a chance that a player like White could unfortunately end up off the roster.
No. 1: Mason Rudolph
Between signing Mitch Trubesky and drafting Kenny Beckett, the Steelers now have few quarterbacks other than Mason Rudolph to finally go forward.
The 26-year-old quarterback played here and there for Pittsburgh when the Steelers needed him and didn’t always look great all the time on the court. In 384 pass attempts dating back to 2019, Rudolph threw 2,366 yards and 16 touchdowns, but he also threw 11 interceptions in the same time frame.
Given that Rudolph was not entirely productive or efficient, there is certainly an argument for Pittsburgh to move from him and let someone else lead this crime. Unfortunately for Rudolph, this could eventually mean he was cut down by the Steelers.
