The Alabama soccer team might lose ground to Arch Manning, but that’s why that might not really matter in the end.

While not much has been revealed about Manning’s high profile recruitment lately, Chad Simmons of On 3 He may have pulled the curtain down a bit during his column published last week. Although Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas appear to be his last four, Simmons thinks Manning’s commitment may come down to Georgia or eventually Texas. Alabama could finish in third place.
How worried should Alabama fans be that Manning’s commitment never ends?

Although things would line up perfectly until Manning takes charge of Bryce Young, there doesn’t seem to be a strong connection between him and Alabama as there is with Georgia or Texas. Manning’s knows Kirby Smart all too well. Todd Monken is the former NFL offensive coordinator and Athens is a great college town. Texas has Steve Sarkissian and needs to bring her back.
By looking at who’s recruiting Manning at those respective schools, it says all about who’s really in the race to land him. Manning’s primary recruit in Texas is quarterback coach A.J. Milloy with Cornerbacks coach and backed by New Orleans native Terry Joseph. Factor in Manning’s well-documented admiration for Sarkissian’s crime-run, and it may be a century long.
Although Georgia lost Manning’s former primary recruit to former Ole Miss coach and offensive line coach Matt Locke, Monken rose to be his primary boss. Supporting him is passing game coordinator/wide receiver coach Brian McClendon. Now back at his alma mater for the second time, Georgia McClendon’s placement on the Arch Watch is huge, given his role as a professional recruit.
As for Alabama, defensive coordinator Pete Golding has long been Manning’s lead recruit at Crimson Tide, presumably up after Sarkisian left Tuscaloosa for Texas. Only until recently, offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien actually entered the battle to recruit Manning as a secondary. It helps, but Alabama might not roll the red carpet for him like Georgia or Texas.
So where does this leave Alabama? The Ty Simpson Show could start in 2023. The Crimson Tide is also turning its attention to the previous Texas A&M commitment Eli Holstein. Given that O’Brien has had major success in the NFL as a head coach and worked with the first Heisman Award-winning signal caller in the school’s history, first-class quarterback recruits will now flock to Tuscaloosa.
Simply put, Alabama is not desperate enough to land on Manning, as is evident in Georgia and Texas. Georgia won a national title with a previous round. Although they haven’t had much success with an elite high school nominee since Aaron Murray and Matthew Stafford before that, the Dogs go on to score big whether it’s Stetson Bennett fourth or GT Daniels starting their games.
As far as Texas is concerned, yes, Longhorns have Quinn Ewers on the list, but this team needs to start winning some games. Texans couldn’t even go bowling in Sarkissian’s first year on the job, and that was in the Big 12. With the Texans joining the SEC in short order, they would need a quarterback who could play. It could be Ewers, but it might be Manning if he chose them.
Manning can thrive in Alabama, but fitness is not ideal and the need for him is not entirely urgent.
