Anthony Rizzo talks about ‘bad breakup’ with Capps on returning to Chicago

New York Yankees first team captain Anthony Rizzo returned to Chicago this week in a series against the White Sox. His separation from the cubs was not entirely clean.

Rizzo was traded to the Yankees on deadline last year, making what at the time seemed like a clean break from a former World Championship contender.

The first baseman helped the Cubs win their first World Championship in 108 years. While the short-term end result may be disappointing, Chicago will never forget 2016.

But thanks to comments from Jed Hoyer, Cubs’ Front Office Executive Director, the aforementioned ‘Clean Rizzo Break’ was not at all.

Hoyer claimed that he could ‘sleep well’ knowing that he made the Core Four’s fair bids to try to survive in Windy City. Rizzo did not agree with this feeling.

ā€œIā€™m really confused about why. Why would you say that? Rizzo told WMVP-AM 1000 the next day.ā€ Sounds like a bad breakup and the person says he’s okay when he’s not feeling well. …I know it’s about business, and when you want your cake and you want to eat it too, it’s kind of.”

Anthony Rizzo looks clean about the Cubs’ bad breakup

Despite some bad blood after those comments, Rizzo seems to have gotten past it. In this off season, he signed a two-year, $32 million contract to stay with the Yankees. Meanwhile, the cubs continue to rebuild them.

“As a human, have I been (timed)? Sure. But as a baseball player who sees what’s going on and (knows) that this is a business, that’s how it is. In terms of retail, I don’t think there’s much to it. … I wish them well. I want to Jade succeeds in being the boss there. He’s been the GM and under Theo for a while. So building the upcoming Cubs team would be great for him, (wife) Meryl and his family” Rizzo said.

Although the breakup may not have been severe, Rizzo and the cubs have weathered his difficult exit.
