The Celtics needed to win Game 6 to survive against the Bucks and Jayson Tatum went toe-to-toe with Giannis Antetokounmpo in an epic duel to do just that.
With the Boston Celtics facing elimination and traveling to Milwaukee for Game 6 in the second round of their series against the Bucks, the call for many fans was simple: It’s time for Jason Tatum to show he’s a big star and move on.
Suffice it to say he did – but not without some resistance from the Bucks star himself, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It was an epic clash between two showrunners running at full capacity on Friday night. Antikonmo had a fantastic night with 44 points, 20 rebounds and six assists. But Tatum won’t be outdone as he has 46 points, nine boards and four assists, including a control in the fourth quarter to help give the Celtics a decisive win that mandates a 7-game in the series.
Jason Tatum beats Giannis Antetokounmue to give Celtics Game 6: NBA Twitter react
After such an outrageous performance by two superstars on a huge stage, the NBA Twitter could not help but applaud and appreciate the duel.
Even better, there’s more to come as the Celtics win forced Game 7 in the series.
While the two superstars were great, especially Tatum in the fourth quarter of Boston, it was the Celtics getting help around their star that might have made the difference.
While Marcus Smart and Jaylene Brown put in 21 and 22 points respectively for helping their teammate, only one Bucks player outside the Giannis put in more than six points (Junior Holiday with 17) and Pat Connaughton was the only other Milwaukee player with double digits. .
If the Bucks want to go further to defend their title with a win in Game 7 in Boston, they will need more than just Greek Freak to help shape that path.
