The New York Yankees may not have any immediate need to make a deal for Frankie Montas, but let’s think about that scary word: injuries. The Yankees have many starters with injury concerns and the team may eventually decide to limit the number of innings for some of the freshmen. For this reason, we should expect the Yankees to be rumored about the possibility of adding a debutante pitcher like Frankie Montas.
Montas may be the most available bowler on the market, and he’s still with Oakland Athletics as one of their final commercial chips to shop this summer.
With the team in control for this season and next, it’s more than just a rental. If he does indeed become someone that Yankees consider a promotion or even a need for rotation, these are the three assets they should be looking to trade in in order to acquire it.
Yankees Rumors: Trey Sweeney is the best prospect even to consider dealing with Frankie Montas
Behind Anthony Volpi and Oswald Perazza, the Yankees have another short-lived possibility of using it as an asset in the trade. His name is Trey Sweeney.
Sweeney is Ranked 5th in the farm system according to MLB.com. Through the franchise’s first round draft last year, Sweeney is a clear man who can see a change of position or franchise sooner rather than later.
The big question the Yankees will need to ask themselves is whether or not Montas is the man who trades Sweeney. They seem to stick to Volpe or Peraza; A question that they still have to answer fully. The Yankees have been shy about trading either and could even hold on to both and see them fight it off at some point in the future.
Sweeney may be more than enough for the Yankees to snatch Montas out of athletics. Perhaps adding another player in the deal, depending on their needs at the time, could turn this into a bigger deal with Sweeney and another prospect going into athletics for Montas and a role player. The ingenuity of Tony Kemp should pique everyone’s interest.
