Sony WH-1000XM5 hands-on review

I got a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5 The headphones are now available for pre-order. But do they deserve a more expensive price point?

For many, Sony’s WH-1000XM4 headphones are some of the best on the market. They don’t go anywhere, and they stay in the market for $350. However, the much-anticipated follow-up was announced last week – The Sony WH-1000XM5.

Sony was kind enough to send me a set to review for a few days before launching on May 20th.

The first thing you’ll likely notice is the price point. The Sony WH-1000XM5 Available for pre-order for $399. So we’re officially in the “premium headphones” territory (although they’re still significantly cheaper than the Apple AirPods Max ($480).

So are they worth the price point?

Well, I guess it depends on your needs. But I will say that Sony WH-1000XM5’s They are the best headphones I have ever used.

It’s available in silver and black (she sent me the black pair) and weighs 0.55 pounds. The battery lasts for 40 hours on a full charge (30 hours if you use noise cancellation) – and just three minutes of charging will give you three hours of playback.

When it comes to sound quality, I don’t think there is a device on the market that can compare to these. The WH-1000XM5’s The use of an automatic noise-cancelling enhancer, which is nothing short of excellent.

Basically, headphones have eight small microphones and two processors. The microphones pick up all the outside noise, and then a counter-acoustic wave is produced to “cancel” the noise. I tested them in a few places, and got very positive results.

Box fan in the bedroom – can still hear a slight hum, but nothing to be distracting. Lawn mower – I mean, it’s a lawn mower. Of course I still hear that. But it wasn’t close to drowning out my music. Driving – look, using headphones while in the car isn’t really a thing for me, but I wanted to give it a try. Like a lawn mower, I obviously could still hear my car’s engine, but the outside noise from other vehicles was minimal.

Obviously, these headphones don’t cancel out all the outside noise. That would be nearly impossible. However, they do a better job than any other set of headphones on the market.

From a design standpoint, it looks as elegant as over-ear headphones can get, but for me it was all about comfort.

The earcups fit my ears well, and even when I put my glasses on I didn’t feel any discomfort. This is a testament not only to how light the headphones are, but how good the earcups are.

In general, there is not much to grab. The case could be smaller and there could be a wireless charging option, but these are real gadgets.

If you’re interested, you can pre-order the Sony WH-1000XM5 today from Amazon.
